History of the Kyabram Club
The Kyabram Club is located on the site that was originally the local hospital. In 1960 the Kyabram Hospital relocated and the building was purchased by a group of local businessmen who converted the building and obtained a Club Liquor License. The Club became known as the Kyabram Mens Club and traded accordingly until 1970 when a vote was help amongst existing members, that opened the way for the Club to accept women members.
During the 70's and 80's the club was a popular destination amongst residents of Kyabram with many social occasions. In December 1984 a large proportion of the building was burnt to the ground, over the following eight months many members and friends volunteered many hours to reconstruct and rebuild the burnt out shell.
In 1993 the Club was successful in obtaining a license to operate five electronic gaming machines and subsequent applications since has seen the number of gaming machines increase to the current level of 43.
Membership to the Club has grown impressively, particulary since in the last decade, and sees the Club with a membership tally now well in excess of 3500. For nearly five decades the Club has been located on what many of the more senior residents of Kyabram refer to as the old hospital site, indeed it has been quoted by some members, that they were born on site and feel that there is a possibility that they may even die on site.
